What is “Family History with Bill Moore”?
We all have stories about members of our families. Some of them are tales of spectacular achievements. Others are about daily life. And all of them deserve to be told, documented, and cherished. The stories here are about members of my family. In some cases, I knew them well. In others, I’ll be depending on stories I heard as I grew up. Sometimes I’ll be using good old-fashioned research to fill in the blanks.
I hope my stories will encourage you to preserve the stories of your own family.
Preserve your memories, keep them well, what you forget you can never retell. – Louisa May Alcott
Who Am I?
Hi, my name is Bill Moore. I am a retired tech guy who spends a lot of time visiting dead relatives.
After some 20 years of doing what I would call “casual genealogy,” I have decided to start telling some of the stories that I’ve collected about the people who walked before me. I hope that you’ll find my ancestors to be as interesting as I do. Some of them lived quite remarkable lives. Others are best described as “salt of the Earth” types. But all of them contributed to making me who I am.
I’m still working on my formal genealogy. It resides on my personal website at https://bill-moore.us. I am actively researching the following surnames: Moore, Naylor, Brownleigh, Boardman, Ingham, Van Deusen, Hutto, and Brady. If I run across an interesting story about one of my other ancestors, I’ll add that too!
Support Local, Regional, and National Genealogy Societies
When I first started working seriously on my family genealogy, I found that genealogy societies are helpful and supportive places to get assistance on your research projects. They are largely funded by folks like us. Please, join your local society and then consider joining the national and regional societies if your budget allows. Your investment will pay off in the knowledge you acquire. Here are a few that I support:
New York Genealogical and Biographical Society
